Getting started

About me

My journey into information processing actually began by accident. A few years ago, during my previous studies of languages, I took a course on language technology where we were learning Phyton. To be honest, I didn’t enjoy it at all at the time. However, I’ve always been passionate about games, and I knew I wanted to have a career in game development. That passion led me to research different study fields that could teach me the necessary skills.

After careful consideration, I applied to the University of Oulu to study Information Processing Science, and in September 2024, I officially began this new chapter of my life.

For those of you still reading after my brief life story—welcome! In this blog, I’ll be sharing my experiences as an information processing student, the new things I learn along the way, and my progress toward becoming a game developer. I hope you’ll join me on this journey!

Blogging

When it comes to blogging, I’m a complete newbie. I’ve secretly thought about starting a blog many times before, but I never had the courage or motivation to take action. But now, here we are!

This blog is part of my English course, but beyond that, I see it as a great opportunity to finally start blogging. I find it interesting and beneficial—especially for students and those in fields like information processing, where continuous learning and self-improvement are essential.

I believe blogging will help me not only become a better writer but also reinforce my studies by sharing my experiences here. Hopefully, it will also keep me motivated, especially during the challenging moments of my learning journey.

English learning goals

Since this blog is also about English learning, I will set my goals here. Hopefully they might motivate some of you to learn too! I consider myself at least a decent English speaker. At home, I use English as my main language with my partner I’ve also lived abroad and worked using only English in the past. However, there’s always room for improvement! That’s why I’ve set specific goals to enhance my English skills over the next six months.

My Six-Month English Improvement Goal

s: My goal is to speak more naturally and expand my vocabulary, learning how to adapt my language for both formal and casual situations.

This is how I will do it:

  • Learn 1,000 new wordsThat’s about 38 words per week. I will use tools like Quizlet and flashcards.

  • Practice formal speaking – At least 30 minutes per week. For example, I will make imaginary speeches.

  • Write a blog post – Once a week to strengthen my writing skills.

By following these goals, I hope to become a more confident and versatile English speaker. Let’s see how it goes! What are your thoughts? Share in the comments!

See you in my next post!

  1. Firstly I want to say I love how personal and flowing your writing is! I also felt the same about coding and computer science in general when I first got to know C and C++. Not my cup of tea :D Somehow I still ended up in here even though I didn't think of it at first. It is interesting to hear your own experience in Information Processing and thoughts about blogging. I am really looking forward to read your next blogpost :)
